Chanelle Hardy is an attorney, technology policy executive, and nationally recognized leader at the intersection of public policy, civil rights, and innovation. She serves as Head of U.S. Public Policy Stakeholder Engagement at Google, where she leads strategic engagement with Congress, national advocacy organizations, and community leaders. A trusted advisor to senior executives and policymakers, she helps shape Google’s approach to some of the most consequential issues facing technology, including responsible innovation, civil rights, economic opportunity, and the future of public policy.

 

During her tenure at Google, Chanelle has built the company’s infrastructure for engaging civil rights and multicultural stakeholder communities, played a leadership role in Google’s civil rights and human rights initiatives, and spearheaded strategic philanthropic investments. She is also the founder of Google’s Next Gen Policy Leaders program, a premier leadership initiative that prepares emerging leaders to shape the future of technology, government, and public affairs.

Before joining Google, Chanelle built a distinguished career across government, nonprofit advocacy, and public service. She served as Chief of Staff to former FCC Chair Mignon Clyburn, Chief of Staff on Capitol Hill, and Senior Vice President for Policy and Director of the Washington Bureau at the National Urban League. Earlier in her career, she served as a staff attorney at the Federal Trade Commission, Counsel and Chief of Staff to Congressman Artur Davis, Fellow and Counsel at Consumers Union, and began her professional journey as a Teach For America corps member and fifth-grade teacher in Washington, D.C.—an experience that continues to inform her commitment to expanding opportunity and strengthening communities.

 

Chanelle serves on the National Board of Teach For America and on advisory boards and councils supporting the Georgetown McCourt School of Public Policy, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, UnidosUS, the National Urban League, and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Her leadership has been recognized across the public policy and technology sectors, including the National Urban League’s Donald McGannon Award for advancing equitable technology policy.

 

Chanelle earned her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland.
