Dr. Melissa V. See
Dr. Melissa See is a physician executive and clinical leader who specializes in community-designed health innovation. As the Site Medical Director for AltaMed’s South Gate Clinic, she steers a multidisciplinary team and an 18-member Family Medicine Residency Program dedicated to eliminating health disparities through care models co-designed with the patients they serve. Her leadership is defined by the belief that technological advancement must be rooted in community needs, ensuring that clinical analytics and quality improvement (QI) frameworks are used to amplify, rather than replace, the patient voice in Southern California’s most diverse neighborhoods.
Dr. See serves as the Provider Champion for AltaMed’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program, where she leads the expansion of clinical workflows for those facing opioid and substance use disorders. Rather than a top-down implementation, she focuses on community-informed care, leveraging telehealth and electronic health record (EHR) optimizations to build low-barrier pathways that meet patients where they are. By integrating these digital tools with a deep understanding of local social determinants, she ensures that life-saving treatments are both technologically seamless and culturally accessible.
Drawing on her background in public administration and community health leadership, Dr. See has a proven track record of managing complex care delivery by prioritizing the expertise of the local community. Whether utilizing clinical data to address cancer-screening disparities or overseeing trauma-informed models for refugee populations, she ensures that every innovative process is a reflection of community-identified priorities. A vocal advocate for Health Equity and LGBTQ+ Health, Dr. See is committed to developing patient-centered digital measures that dismantle systemic barriers and ensure that the future of healthcare is built in partnership with the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
