Eric Gutshall is a public affairs leader with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of government, policy, and advocacy. A former Presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Education, Eric played a key role in advancing national efforts to close the homework gap, expand broadband access, and drive digital transformation across public education systems. He also represented the U.S. in global education diplomacy, including at the G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting and UNESCO World Education Meeting.

 

Eric has been a strong advocate for the ethical and equitable use of artificial intelligence in public policy and education, emphasizing its potential to improve outcomes, reduce disparities, and empower communities.

He is Co-Founder and Partner at Pinnacle Collective Public Affairs, where he advises mission-driven organizations on strategic communications, government relations, and navigating complex political environments. He also serves as a Distinguished Fellow and incoming Adjunct Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.

 

Eric’s prior roles include Secretary of Intergovernmental Affairs for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Executive Director of two statewide education financing authorities, and leadership positions in both the Pennsylvania and U.S. House of Representatives.

 

A first-generation college graduate and openly LGBTQI+ leader, Eric brings lived experience and a deep commitment to equity and representation in public service. He holds degrees from Central Penn College and the University of Pennsylvania, with additional executive education from Harvard and the University of Chicago.
